P07 Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, Inst. de Automatica Industrial – CSIC (ES)

The Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) is the largest public multidisciplinary research organisation in Spain. It has a staff of more than 10,000 employees, among these 3202 scientists and about 3802 pre- and postdoctoral researchers. The CSIC has 116 Institutes or centres distributed throughout Spain. There is also a delegation in Brussels. It has considerable experience both participating in and managing R&D projects and training grants. Under the 6th Framework Programme, the CSIC has signed 418 actions (37 coordinated by the CSIC). Under the 7th Framework Programme, the CSIC has signed 129 actions (18 coordinated by the CSIC). The CSIC has been ranked the 5th organisation in Europe in terms of project execution and amount of funding received within the 6th Framework Programme. The Industrial Automation Institute belongs to CSIC (CSIC-IAI), and was founded in October 1971. The CSIC-IAI is located on a site belonging to the CSIC that is spread over 9.4 hectares. The Instituto de Automática Industrial is engaged in scientific and technical research focusing on the generation of new knowledge, both basic and applied, in the field of processes and systems automation and the development of advanced strategies for measurement, inspection, control and operation. CSIC-IAI is a huge laboratory for experimentation and project development, very well equipped. In addition to its regular personnel, the CSIC-IAI has a number of post-graduate students that are doing their Master and/or Ph.D. Thesis (over 70) while receiving training in scientific methodology

Major activities in CROPS

The main contribution of CSIC-IAI to the CROPS proposal will be in using its experience and its proven knowledge in sensors (computer vision, ultrasound, laser-vision, force, humidity, temperature, ground penetrating radar, infrared-thermal, signal processing and advanced filtering) (as leader of WP2), robotics, and system integration.
